Set in the future during a 2nd civil war, Connor, Risa and Lev struggle to keep themselves alive and away from being "unwound," or being taken apart little by little and donating their organs. Each has no need to exist in society according to the authorities, therefore being unwound is the best decision. This book is creepy, thought-provoking, and will keep you captivated until the very end.<div style="text-align: right;">-Kathy</div>Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14081028753392935123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635540405743843024.post-33562878826636981792011-11-18T17:05:00.000-08:002011-11-18T17:07:21.836-08:00Becoming Me<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9aGmqMmADsBT0UUgx_WInA0AWLPYhGHcFF7lOHPrDqcb7EWtVgissw_iSUcHJ0kESfUWttICVThlUMp-zgPKf3iImJFrrXOrjqaDfkJxYlyGquwd0gwTFh5X6SZXiCxmohrNZee1Gd6A/s1600/becoming+me.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 254px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF9aGmqMmADsBT0UUgx_WInA0AWLPYhGHcFF7lOHPrDqcb7EWtVgissw_iSUcHJ0kESfUWttICVThlUMp-zgPKf3iImJFrrXOrjqaDfkJxYlyGquwd0gwTFh5X6SZXiCxmohrNZee1Gd6A/s400/becoming+me.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676506895831256834" /></a><br /><div>This is a funny, heartwarming story written in diary entries about friends, family, peer pressure, boys and heartache. It allows the reader to be immersed within the book and relate closely with the characters. While all of us may not be black maids or white socialites in Jackson, Mississippi, the emotions tie the reader in. If social gatherings and fried chicken are your cup of tea, then <i>The Hel</i><i>p</i> would be my recommendation.</div><div style="text-align: right;">-Alicia</div><div style="text-align: right;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><i>The Help</i> follows three different women in the 1960s when segregation and integration was a highly debated topic. Kathryn Stockett uses the interesting method of using the women's voices to tell their stories, as opposed to having one set speaker. I recommend this book because it stimulates the reader to think about the changes, whether great or small, that the United States has endured. <i>The Help</i> was a book I loved because of the writing techniques and the story overall. </div>Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14081028753392935123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635540405743843024.post-31992743488719941822011-11-18T16:55:00.000-08:002011-11-18T16:56:58.435-08:00Good to Great<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL3lXhTTXFMal9rdKDgE_j4n8FTJEtQOYkHxgYd1irP1g6ZSUGCG5rPfFErUigsfiucy-sEnWmRUdbQ9UalOyULJw8TGN-o7N5hvjm7e-FigkGFbiUAmSH_grs63gl0hfLN-qOm0WvAJT2/s1600/good-to-great.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 278px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL3lXhTTXFMal9rdKDgE_j4n8FTJEtQOYkHxgYd1irP1g6ZSUGCG5rPfFErUigsfiucy-sEnWmRUdbQ9UalOyULJw8TGN-o7N5hvjm7e-FigkGFbiUAmSH_grs63gl0hfLN-qOm0WvAJT2/s400/good-to-great.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676504265396169618" /></a><br /><div>When I first got the book, I expected it to be a boring, serious and professional economy/business book. One of my favorite Wilde quote is "People who count their chickens before they are hatched, act very wisely, because chickens run about so absurdly that it is impossible to count them accurately," which means that people who plan for the future are prepared. This is an incredible book, and is highly recommended.<br /><div style="text-align: right;">-Annisa<br /></div>Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14081028753392935123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635540405743843024.post-92195340408425186062011-04-14T09:07:00.000-07:002011-04-14T09:49:34.746-07:00The Good Good Pig<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixDmUZenaH8G_5FFUGsFWMOvqlEUFqSHWKy-IfUrY1-fxtEzeKLmw3IjaooIPEwogmoZzuSAc5HppWQ-UlOPFThIm0M6fVBQhijm-2biWj-PPyf1hTWPXpC4D-t2-6-cjwwvRliKF6G80c/s1600/good_pig.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 212px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixDmUZenaH8G_5FFUGsFWMOvqlEUFqSHWKy-IfUrY1-fxtEzeKLmw3IjaooIPEwogmoZzuSAc5HppWQ-UlOPFThIm0M6fVBQhijm-2biWj-PPyf1hTWPXpC4D-t2-6-cjwwvRliKF6G80c/s320/good_pig.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595471720395456978" border="0" /></a><br />When I was shopping in the bookstore with my mom, I was interested in this book because there was a cute little pig on the cover. <span style="font-style: italic;">The Good Good Pig</span>, by Sy Montgomery, is in fact a book about a pig named Christopher Hogwood. Sy and her husband, Howard, received Chris because he was the runt at the local farm. At first, Chris ceased to grow. However, he eventually did start to grow, and his relationships with the people around him grew as well. You don't have to love pigs to enjoy reading this book because a lot of the book is about the relationships with the pig, not just the pig in general. At the end, you learn a good lesson about life and how a small pig named Christopher Hogwood grew to be 750 pounds and changed many lives of the people around him.<br /><div style="text-align: right;">-Michelle<br /></div>Betsyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14081028753392935123noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3635540405743843024.post-6618057620395900412011-04-14T09:01:00.000-07:002011-04-28T13:13:38.284-07:00Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhptKiOt1RR9DbcNOOBSk2sVAP2dxxnZSwc3zUhzeK49ds6lNFXmdbiTXi_sduACQPl-BxPm1uuiI2pucOpmjhqTtDZlJ1LcAjwifkigO-4KZfW8iKzSPJdwr7qp_Pqcpo3DvL3DnIl8qmW/s1600/220px-Balzac_and_the_Little_Chinese_Seamstress_poster.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 220px; height: 303px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhptKiOt1RR9DbcNOOBSk2sVAP2dxxnZSwc3zUhzeK49ds6lNFXmdbiTXi_sduACQPl-BxPm1uuiI2pucOpmjhqTtDZlJ1LcAjwifkigO-4KZfW8iKzSPJdwr7qp_Pqcpo3DvL3DnIl8qmW/s320/220px-Balzac_and_the_Little_Chinese_Seamstress_poster.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595470711553255298" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress</span> will take you into the world of two young teenage boys who lived in China during the Cultural revolution.
